Day 7. Brusand to Hauge.

As we had taken so long over the first off road section we decided not to take the second and cut off two sides of a triangle on a not so pleasant main road. We heard later from the couple we had met the previous day that it was easier than the first section and they had cycled past a salmon leap and seen salmon leaping. When we come this way again we'll make sure it is the same time of year and do that section.

We did not stop to look at Sogndalstrand either, as we wanted to get to the campsite at Hauge. Sogndalstrand seemed very nice and arty in the late afternoon sun. On the way into town Damae heard a mobile phone ringing in the grass verge, and answered it 1. A little while later the owner turned up to collect his mobile. He'd left it on the roof of the car and it had remained there for a couple of kilometers (surprising given the bendy up and down roads in the area). After refuelling we headed off to Hauge.

We arrived in the campsite at Hauge (which lies a couple of easy kilometers off the route itself) in glorious sunshine cycling up a driveway across a rolling field that reminded me of something out of Gone With the Wind. We were directed to a spot close to a quiet pool in the river. We cooked and started eating in the afternoon sun, before being forced back into the tent by rain.

Later we emerged into the fresh evening air went to the small wooden building housing showers toilets etc. We made good use of the hot showers easing our muscles in preparation for the next day ahead of us. Standing outside in the evening sun we did the washing up before taking an early night.

1Update 2007/07/10 funnily enough as it turns out, this is not a unique experience for cyclists in Norway. See halfway down the page.
