Day 22. part 2.

We had a look round, could have bought lots of things that were beautiful. After two circuits of the area we decided that a cup of coffee was required, and a couple of minutes later found a seat on the terras. We both ordered a cafe latte, our last ones for the trip. The day would not be long, but the coffee was welcome as the sun was up and the temperature rising.

Damae had seen something that had caught her eye, rings made up of a series of bands. We went back to look at them again, and Damae as ever doubtful about spending money looked at three of them. One fitted best and looked the nicest so eventually we bought it. Besides the t-shirt and hat the only other things we brought back with us besides the memories and pictures.

We still had some time so we wandered up to the Parliament building to have a look round. I stopped to take two photos in the pedestrianised shopping area by the Parliament building. One looking up the hill to the Royal Palace and the other looking back down to the station. I found the square beside the Parliament lovely with a statue of Johan Sverdrup and a range of brick and stone buildings of different styles. We wandered round the front of the Parliament enjoying the style of the building and took a photo of the Vigeland sculpture in front of it.

Then we started the journey back to Schiphol. Wheeling the bikes into the left luggage area at the station we packed our bags straight onto the bikes. As we were almost ready to go I heard an English woman's voice exclaim 'Oh look the have bicycle storage here as well'. I could see how she could have come to that conclusion (there are lockers tall enough to take skis) and decided to leave her wonderous moment intact.

We then wandered out into the station concourse for the last time and headed to the ticket machines for the airport express train. Without too much ado we bought our two tickets, and wandered out onto the sunny platform. I hadn't noticed the wave in the canopies above the platforms until now and duly impressed by the effect tried to capture it with a photograph.

The train leaves every 20 mins and runs as an express all the way up to Gardemoen. There was ample room for our bikes and we arrived at the airport very quickly. Our advice is to take the train once as it is a nice experience but rather expensive. Bus or standard train services are available at lower cost although I am not sure if you can take a bike on a coach.
