Day 16. Helgeroa to Husøy. The final section.

The next goal was to get to Engø to take the ferry to Tenvik. Looking at the map it seemed as though we had to take a ferry to Veierland cycle 3 km and then take another ferry to Tenvik. We arrived at the small terminal to see the ferry leaving, and discovered that we now had a 2 hour wait. Looking at the ferry schedule it appeared that it was an impossible task to cycle the 3 km on Veierland in time for the ferry to Tenvik. We approached a friendly native, and discovered with some relief that there was only one ferry that went to Tenvik via two stops on Veierland.

There was pretty much nothing to do there, so I made some tea and soup in the flask, and we sat enjoying our enforced rest in the sun. The only downside was that with all the stopping we were now quite late in the day if I remember correctly we arrived in Tenvik at 6pm. Still watching the world go by was fun, and the view was lovely.

The ferry to Tenvik was another lovely trip, we sat enjoying the sunshine, drank the soup, and in a surprisingly short time arrived in Tenvik. The harbour was deserted except for the people leaving the boat and those people coming to meet them. The terminal shack and car park baking hot in the evening sun. We climbed gently through the countryside, past large houses with gardens, the first section the road was a little narrow, later it broadened out giving vistas over the rolling countryside and the fjord.

We managed to lose the way a couple of times at the end of the day trying to find Føynland. The heat made me a little grumpy, so it was good to cycle downhill through a treelined road to the campsite. The campsite is located near to the sea, a small bay with big rocks on one side and a marina on the other. Looked like it was going to be good.

The place was full of teams of sailors from everywhere in Europe for competition in the Euro class all very cosmopolitan. However the downside was that the facilities were much in demand. Also the 'free' showers which were indeed free were also not hot, varying from lukewarm to cold. I much prefer to pay a couple of euros and get a really good shower, if only to ease stiff muscles.

The other problem arose when we tried to return the cardkey for the shower block and get our deposit back the following morning. Now that it was after the official end of summer the reception opened at 12pm instead of 9am during high season. In the end we gave our cardkey to a group of sailors who were planning on leaving after midday, and got our deposit back that way. I think it went ok as despite leaving our contact details with them we never heard anything more. Thanks whoever you were.
