Day 11. Spangereid to Sønge (Lunde).

At least we had some sun, we saw Mandal at its best. A busy tourist town with a big waterfront, the town seemed much larger than many of the places we had passed on the coast. Strange to have to watch out for traffic, there seemed to be an awful lot of it compared to the route so far as we negotiated the roundabouts. Seeing as we had spent some time in Sjølingstad we decided not to look around Mandal but head on.

Towards the end of the day the landscape flattened as we approached Sønge I remember feeling a sense of relief as we were feeling tired at the end of the day. We'd looked at the map and earlier realised that that the options for camping that night were a little limited, pushing on to Kristiansand meant going past it to the first campsite more than 20km from the previous site and we had heard from Hetty and Hans that the short offroad section before Kristiansand was quite demanding. Thus the campsite at Aros on the south side of Sønge was Hobson's choice.

A short distance off the route we found the campsite, a large commercial site with an outdoor pool and a sandy beach. We found a space small enough for our tent, not too far from a toilet and shower block. In contrast to many of the other sites it had a slightly scruffy feel, probably as it was a busy full site at the end of the season.

We did the usual thing eating sleeping eating. Damae took advantage of the outdoor pool and went for a dip. Started warm and cooled off in the evening. Sky was nice for cloudy and grey later in the evening. I showered in the morning which had one downside that it took a long time for the water to warm up. Otherwise the facilities were fine. Probably a good place to stay if you have kids.
