Day 10 part 3. Rest Day. Bergen revisited.

After finding some Fin Fyr in a Perry Sport shop in the town we headed back to do the groceries. We went to the tiny supermarket next to the Godt Brød Bakery where we had eaten in the morning, before heading to the B&B picking up our panniers from the station on the way.

As we started on the route marked out for us by 'Sophie' from the Tourist Bureau we wondered if she understood that we had two fully laden touring bikes with us. The path started out steep and very quickly became uncycleable. Worse still we encountered a couple of long flights of stairs which required us to take the bags off the bikes and carry everything separately to the top.

Just before we finally hit a road the path was so steep that it was almost impossible to push the bikes whilst walking. Cursing, we reached the top, and decided that 'Sophie' must have been part of some state funded Art Project designed to confuse and delight tourists. To be honest a couple of days later we wondered if her information about the road to Voss had been correct.

The house we ended up at on the Belle Vue was lovely. We were warmly welcomed and room was made in their small shed for our bikes. We deposited our stuff in the good sized room and went downstairs to make some tea. We sat outside in the back garden enjoying the last of the evening sun, before heading back into the house.

We were quite tired from the day wandering round so decided not to go for an amble. The lady of the house said that they often walked up from the house to the tops above Bergen, and I could see why you would want to do that. I could not help thinking that if I lived here I'd be inclined to do the same. Maybe you do tire of beautiful views and a walk up the hill becomes mundane. I'd like to get the chance to see if it would happen.

We showered, washed some items of clothing and went to bed. Lying there we were disturbed only by the English woman in the next room on her mobile phone. The benefits of modern technology were not obvious to us at that moment. Especially annoying was that there were no exciting topics being discussed, just another small life like our own lives. After a mere twenty minutes or so of enforced eavesdropping the conversation came to a natural end, and peace was restored.
