Day 7 part 3. Hanstholm to Blokhus.

The campsite was a kilometre or so from the centre up a slight incline. Negotiating the traffic and hordes of people on holiday, we headed slowly up the hill. We'd stopped cycling for half an hour and had pretty quickly stiffened up.

We discovered that the site was large, with plenty of motorhomes and caravans. We ended up in an undulating field and it took some time to find a spot on our pitch that was horizontal enough to guarantee a good night's sleep. So after pfaffing around for fifteen minutes or so, we dragged the tent out of the bag and put it up at the extreme edge of our plot. The site was big but about thirty metres away there was a small toilet block which saved a trek back to the reception.

This was a relaxed and disorganised evening. We did not have to shelter from the rain, and it remained remarkably warm until sundown. There was much less wind that earlier in the day and the site was surrounded by trees. The site was surprisingly empty when we arrived although the field was more than half full by the time we went to bed. It made for something to look at as all sorts of campers set themselves up for the night in all sorts of tents and campers.

It was great to have done another good day's cycle, the sun had been welcome even if the wind was a bit hard going. We'd finally seen some wonderful scenery, the view from Bulbjerg was fantastic. We had left the familiarity of Dutch style dykes and polders behind us and moved onto something quite different. Whilst Holland does have some similar dune areas I think we were surprised by the scale of the dunes round Bulbjerg.
