Day 9. Svinesland to Lunde (Farsund).
The climb turned out to be one of the highest that we did, at around 260m. We ended up walking for 10 mins as this was a steep climb and we were still tired from the wonderful but testing landscape of the previous days. This part of the route is etched in my memory but neither of us was interested at the time in taking photos.
The rain was now rather heavy but fortunately there was some shelter to be found in the entrance to a driveway of a house. We stopped for a few minutes to recover and ate some emergency chocolate. Damae in particular was showing distinct signs of fatigue. Refreshed and with spirits restored a little we carried on.
Soon the rain stopped and by the time we were approaching Farsund we could see sunshine. We were rewarded for the climbing with an exhilarating fast winding downhill section and some wonderful views. In the background you can see the bridge we would cross the following day. We stopped briefly at a viewing point and Damae took some photos. As you can see, Stan was looking cheerful again.
We got to Farsund, tired after the climb earlier that day and the climbs the day before and headed to the campsite enjoying the wonderful sunshine. The end of day fatigue feeling had set in and it seemed as if the road from Farsund to Lunde was 15km instead of the 5 or so it actually was.
Farsund or rather Lunde turned out to be a fine place to camp for a night. If I was to have to sit in a campsite for three weeks then I'd probably be happy enough there. On arriving at the site, we spent too much time looking for a spot in the crowded site. We settled on a nice sunny spot, and got on with the usual activites, interrupted by a short shower forcing retreat into the tent.
Facilities were fine, but the great thing about the site was the beach, and later we were treated to a fantastic sunset. We noticed that in Norway there seems to be much more colour in the whole sky rather than limited to the area round the sunset. The subtleties of colour were wonderful.
