Day 6. Ølberg to Brusand.

The restaurant had excellent coffee and cake and we wandered round the building housing the cafe for about quarter of an hour. There is a nice thing with coffee in Norway, if you pay a bit extra you get a refill. Mmmm (OK Americans would probably be shocked at the idea of paying for a refill but cheaper is better than full price).

Somewhere along this section we had to get through a gate but in front of the gate was a small herd of large cows. They seemed very reticent to move and only after 10 minutes of cussing and cajoling we were able to pass. The off road sections had a surface of variable quality, so we had to cycle with a little care. Coming away from the shoreline to Varhaug the gravel was fresh and quite loose. Made for a challenge going uphill with a fully laden bike. The sun was shining at this point still.

The other place we paused at was Varhaug. There was a large white wooden church with a matching graveyard. Both beautifully kept. You get some idea of the lie of the land from this photo definitely not taxing. It started raining again so we put our rain gear on, only to have to take it off again shortly afterwards.

Brusand; wet campsite, or it was when we got there. Not a bad site but the one shortly after it at Ogna had a nicer situation, overlooking the sea. Brusand was also close to the sea and should have had good views. However the field we got put in had a ring of conifers around it thus obscuring the sea view entirely.

However we were tired that day probably due to the 90+km the day before. Neither of us was interested in going any further that evening although had we known how close Ogna was we might have pushed on.

Stan was grumpy. Our DIY wing turned out not to be waterproof, grump! It was a bit of a trek grump to the otherwise excellent shower and toilet block. We did however manage to get our clothes washed and dried despite the indifferent weather and sample the joys of the washing up and cooking area.
