Equipment.

Making choices about what to buy can be difficult without prior experience. Wandering aimlessly round camping shops and/or campsites and asking other people what they use helps as does lots of practice runs. We ended up buying cheap bikes and an expensive tent, however both decisions took a long time.

In the pages below are descriptions of how we set things up and our reasoning behind those decisions. Our bikes are now set up in a very different way, (more of that elsewhere) even though we had no problems with carrying everything on the Norway trip.

The tent we bought is a good compromise between space and weight. On the couple of wet evenings we had in Norway last year we learned that the benefits of a bit more space were worth an extra kilo weight.

The last section is cool stuff. After the big decisions have been made then there is the pleasure of finding useful gear, such as cutlery or towels that really work. Also working out how to carry stuff and use it on a daily basis.
