This and that 1

Today I took the Dyane back for its re-test after fiddling with the front brakes and a little to my suprised it passed. Just as I was leaving the 2CV specialist in Beesd one of the headlamp bezels popped off, and I drove over it rendering it unusable. I sighed, parked up and walked back to the garage. Luckily Boudewijn had a scrap but serviceable bezel lying around and after thanking him I walked back to the car, fitted my trophy to the front wing and drove home with the roof open in the sun. Another year of motoring beckons.

Before I went to Beesd I took the scrap metal in the garage to the recycling station. Last to be thrown into the skip was the old roof rack and I hesitated feeling just a little sentimental. Maybe I could fix it up, after all it was a matching period accessory for the van and it did go with us many times to Croatia. But then I thought about all the welding I still had to do and just how much space the roof rack took up when it was not on the roof of the van. I reluctantly threw it out, felt a little sad and then got on with the rest of my day.
